About
half a lifetime of logging anything with a calorific value for wood burning stoves and open fires.
and then in august 2015
an insignificant trip to the local timber merchant for a mantlepiece.
at the till i accidentally muttered "at least dick turpin wore a mask".
after that i was forced to make smarter decisions.
everything the hardwood project creates is sourced from one estate on the west coast of scotland.
poltalloch contains a mixture of hardwoods from historical formal planting and natural seeding.
the west coast can produce some brutal weather and trees will, from time to time capitulate.
age, disease, insufficient roots, unstable soil and many other factors all contribute.
when they're down they're down, and that's where we, quite simply, pick up the pieces.
we're not high street, not even close. but that's the point.
the small quantities we work with are all the more valuable to us because of this.
we just love wood

Looking north towards Poltalloch from Crinan. is it any wonder why we don't mind getting out of bed in the mornings. so we picked a particularly beautiful day for the video and we know it's not always like this. but i've lived here for the best part of 50 years and bad weather's never going to drive me away. quite the opposite, it's all that nature throws at us that shapes and makes the amazing timber we eventually have the pleasure of working with. |
